Steubenville Rape Guilty Verdict: The Case That Social Media Won

In this blog post i'm choosing to take a different look at Social Media. In most of my other posts i discuss more of the negative connotations that come with Social Media but in this case  Social Media saves the day. In the rape case of a 16 year old girl, parties involved so idiotically chose to broadcast their actions right to Instagram. A picture was posted on the girl being held down by her arms and legs to the floor; this sealed the deal for the case. Her assailants were undoubtedly charged guilty. not only was a picture posted to Instagram, there was a 12 minute video of the attack recorded, and text messages exchanged. This case really shows not only how stupid some kids can be but also how some Social Media can help serve justice.

  1. I agree with you! Social media has many effects on society, especially teens, but in this case, these two boys were caught all thanks to social media. The pictures that were posted online just show that teens these days have no privacy and they exploit themselves or let other exploit them, and the video that was posted was also an example how teenage lives are never private. This case was crazy and very inappropriate but the boys received their punishment and I am sure they learned their lesson.

  2. Wow i never thought that social media could be used as solid evidence espeically in a serious crime like rape. At the same time, it shows how disgusting people are when it comes to social media because things like this should never be posted in the first place because it is so inappropriate but good thing they did because if not, they most likely wouldn't have been brought to justice for their crime.

  3. I thought that this blog entree was very interesting! I just cant believe that people would ever post a picture of that on instagram. I would hope that someone would report that type of picture so that the user can be punished for posting that. I think that if the social media wasn't so influential, the kids who committed this crime would have never been caught.
