Bullies on Social Networks

http://jezebel.com/5967905/yet-another-teenage-girl-killed-herself-thanks-to-social-media-slut+shaming

Well, i think the title of this article says it all. 'Yet Another Teenage Girl Killed Herself Thanks to Social Media Bullying'. while some would consider sites such as Facebook and Twitter harmless ways of communicating with family and friends, others see them as channels of abuse. Time and time again, people no matter what age, race, or sex are being bullied to the point where they take their own lives. This is an epidemic that must be ended. Those who are considered the 'bullies' in the cases are using social network sites to hurt and torment others until they feel diminished down to their cores. They choose to hide behind their monitors, and think that a few words exchanged won't have any real effect on someone else's life but they are dead wrong. Sadly, in many cases people who are having the hate inflicted onto them take their own lives because they feel that suicide is the only way to escape the pain. Below is a picture of yet another poor girl who chose to take her own life recently because of the hurtful names and words people inflicted onto her via Facebook.

  1. This is really sad! I don't understand why people would bully someone like that. I totally agree that regardless if you say something hurtful to a person face-to-face or over a computer screen, it is equally hurtful. A lot of us see Facebook and Twitter as good things that we can use to keep in touch and talk with out friends, but we often forget about all the other things people use social media for, like bullying. I think our generation needs to address these issues very soon. People need to realize that their words actually mean something, even if they are just sent over the internet.

  2. It breaks my heart every time a new story comes up about someone who has killed themselves because of bullying. Unfortunately though,I have no idea how to fix it or how to get through to people. I don't believe that they are essentially bad, but I do agree that what they are doing is. And of course, social media has a (unintentional)hand in the issue because it affords people a sort of invisibility and immunity that they would not have had in a face to face confrontation. I don't think though that we can place all the blame on social media or the children who bully or the kids who kill themselves or the parents or even society, all causes I know have been blamed. That's one of the things that bothers me about the article. It tries to place the blame on social media and the kids, but I don't believe that it can be placed on any individual factor.
